Oberthur Technologies named sole supplier to Swedbank

Oberthur Technologies the world’s second largest supplier of smart cards has signed a six year contract with Swedbank, the leading bank in Scandinavia and the Baltic region.

This new agreement means that Oberthur Technologies will deliver all types of payment cards to the Swedbank Group globally. Oberthur Technologies previously delivered  cards for the Swedish market, and this new contract now includes supplying the Baltic countries, the rest of Scandanavia, Russia and Ukraine. All cards will be produced and distributed in the Scandinavian service centers which are part of the Oberthur Technologies’ global network.

 “We are pleased to have signed a new and larger agreement with Oberthur Technologies, “says Michael Anderberg, Head of Business Development Group Cards, Swedbank.” We have been partners for several years and this new agreement makes Oberthur Technologies our sole supplier to assist us in our work to strengthen and broaden our card programs in the countries where Swedbank operates and issues payment cards.”

 “The new agreement means that Oberthur Technologies takes the total responsibility for Swedbanks’ card portfolio,” says Tom Lövstad, Manager of Oberthur Technologies, Card Systems Division Nordic operations. “We will also act as the partner supporting Swedbank in the implementation of new technologies such as contactless and mobile payment solutions. The agreement also has many positive effects at the service centers in Strängnäs and Riga.”
